Access Statement for Hawksdale Lodge

Hawksdale Lodge is a guest house with 2 guest bedrooms on the first floor. One isen-suite and one has a private bathroom a few steps away.

• Guests can contact us by telephone, text, email or letter. Larger print for email or letters can be done on request. Hawksdale Lodge has a website ( Dalston railway station is approximately 1 mile away. This is on the Carlisle - Whitehaven route and we are happy to collect guests from the station and return them there after their stay.
• Hawksdale Lodge is located a mile outside the village of Dalston; the village is on the B5299 Carlisle -Caldbeck road. Hawksdale is not on a bus route.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
• There is ample car parking space on the lane at the front of the house with level access to the house. Cars can be parked within a few feet of the front door. Martyn and Lorraine are both happy to assist people from the car and help with luggage. Bicycles can be stored in the barn.
• The parking area and front door can be lit from dusk until guests retire.

Main Entrance & Reception
• Access to the house is through the main entrance, there is a small step into the house 6cm deep, the main door is 113cm wide and there is a porch with an inner door to the main hall, the inner door is 113cm wide and opens inwards. Guests are greeted by Lorraine or Martyn who can give a guided tour of the main rooms downstairs before showing guests their first floor bedrooms.

Public Areas - General (Internal)
• The house is on two levels, ground floor which is tiled and first floor which is carpeted. The staircase is 107cm wide and each step is 18cm deep with a left hand rail, 10 steps then a left hand turn with handrail to the left up 11 more steps. The stair case and landing can be lit by over head lighting in addition to a range of table lamps.
• The hall way is spacious and level with original tiled flooring There are two chairs in the hall, It is lit with table lamps as well as over head lighting if required.
• There is level access into the Dining Room which has a wooden floor. There is a rug in the centre of the room, an open fireplace and a selection of side tables. This is a bright airy room with two dual aspect windows overlooking the garden and wood. Lighting consists of standard and table lamps as well as overhead lighting on a dimmer switch.
